As a new year approaches I look back
on this past year(s) and am amazed at
the turn of events that have unfolded.
I am so happy to reach the goal that it
seems my life has been directing me towards. My love of children, cooking and working for myself have all come together in this, my ultimate calling. First as a mother, with two bright and happy children (now grown), who I am immensely proud of. Next there was ten years in my business cooking for hundreds of school children daily. The last six years I have been working on a more individual level with children as a highly qualified nanny. These experiences have all prepared me well for my newly opened daycare. Monette's Uptown Home Daycare, officially opened Jan 2nd 2013. It is a home daycare with 5 spots, so my love and attention is firmly focused on your precious children. The early years are so important and when caring for children and seeing them as they grow and mature I realize this really is the best job in the world for me.
The small business grew and soon she
was the very busy owner of a children's
school canteen, with three locations.
Monette was preparing hundreds of
meals daily along with 6 staff. Soon she became known for her special teriyaki sandwiches and across the schoolyard, could be heard the calls for Miss Teriyaki. These were backbreaking long hours and a real education into food preparation that can please the most finicky tastes of her youthful customers.
For six years, Monette has been a
nanny and even though her experience
in other areas such as a legal secretary
and business owner would afford her
many opportunities, caring for children has always been what makes her happy and it is her passion. Over the years, she has happy memories of many families who welcomed her assistance. She became an important part of each family she worked for. Monette is a mother too, of two children, now grown and she is very proud to say they are on a successful path to the future.
Monette knows she has been a positive influence in the developmental years of many young children and she has been given the utmost of appreciation felt by all those parents for whom she has worked.
Discipline for different ages
For infants and toddlers, time-outs are
not appropriate. Can you imagine trying
to explain to a 12 month old and have
them understand why they are getting
a time out? They simply can not
understand this.
Every age comes with slightly different disciplinary options.
I always talk to and show love, but still I am firm when I use techniques such as Positive Reinforcement, Redirecting, Verbal Instructions and Explanation, Time-outs, Establishing Rules and Withholding Privileges.
Age Dependant Discipline Techniques
It's now just over a year ago that I
began my new home daycare (01/2013).
Wow, what a year and I mean that in a
good way. As I suspected, most parents
are searching for a daycare several months in advance, so it took some time, but soon enough my house was filled with the sounds of toddlers, craving my attention. I love them all and over this year I have been privileged to be a part of their daily lives, nurturing their development and caring for their needs and having so much FUN. We have celebrated birthdays, Hallowe'en, Christmas and other holidays, with crafts and costumes and special treats and parties. The kids love doing crafts and painting and the parents love getting keepsakes and seeing photos and videos of the daily activities their kids are having fun with. Some of the things that keep the children entertained and happy are the frequent trips in the 4 seater stroller. (In summer, for much of the time, I only had 4 spots filled). They get so excited when they know we are going out. They love going to Waterloo Park and also to the library. I am so happy every time I hear them say "Hi" to the people they see. They are learning so much. From the books being read to them and dancing to the music, we have a grand time. Learning about animals and the sounds they make, the names of fruits, vegetables and other foods, recognizing cars and planes and using their imaginations as they have a tea party picnic or go grocery shopping. I am so proud of the children in my care. I love them so much.
